Year-Round SPF Products 

As the weather starts to warm up, our time spent outdoors and in the sun is likely to increase. I have always placed a high level of importance on sunscreen and protecting my skin from skin cancer, skin damage, and aging. Sunscreen application is a part of my daily skincare routine year-round, but I implement even more added protection as we enter summertime. In Texas, the sun is INTENSE and definitely requires skin protection. In recent years I’ve discovered additional ways to protect my skin from the sun and have started implementing clothing items with UVP like hats, shirts, and coverups. I’ve tried SO MANY sunscreen products, so I’ve gathered my list of tried and true favorites. When finding the right sunscreen for me, I look for products that I can add to my routine without disturbing my other skincare and makeup. 

Did you know that SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor? This is how long it would take the sun to burn your skin with the sunscreen applied as directed, compared to how long it would take to burn if you aren’t using any sunscreen. For instance, if you’re using a product with an SPF of 30, it will take the sun 30 times longer to burn you than if you had no product. You can read more about the benefits of sunscreen and best practices HERE. I keep a variety of SPF on hand from SPF 30 to SPF 70. I stock sunscreens of different consistencies: spray, cream, and oil. I also make sure to have special sunscreen for the face and lips.

Supergoop has quickly become one of my favorite sunscreen brands. They offer such a wide variety of products that you can select based on your personal needs. On their website you can shop by both skin type and formula. I love the consistency of supergoop products… It is lightweight and doesn’t leave my face feeling sticky. A long-time favorite SPF of mine is pretty much anything by Colorescience! Many of the products I use for day-to-day sun protection are colorescience. I love that many of their products offer face coverage that double as makeup and SPF. Among my daily favorites are: Total Eye 3-in-1 SPF35 Renewal Therapy, Sunforgettable Total Protection Brush-On Shield SPF 50, and the Natural Finish Pressed Foundation SPF20. 

If you’ve ever experienced the pain of a lip sunburn, you know how important it is to wear a lip balm with SPF. When selecting lipscreen, I look for products that are both hydrating and moisturizing, and contain an SPF of 30+. A few lipscreens that I love are: Supergoop Lipscreen Sheer SPF 30, Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Color Balm, and EltaMD UV Lip Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 36.
