Many of you have heard me say, “God gave us one body, take care of it!”.  It’s true!!  As I mature and continue the aging process, I cannot not emphasize this enough.  Your heart, your blood pressure, your hearing, your eyesight, your weight, your diet, your skin…the list is endless.  We are blessed with the gift of aging and we all know the alternative.  I share so many topics and so many talented guests on my podcast, My So-Called Fabulous, that help us take care of ourselves and that one body of yours.  I would love to share how I am currently taking care of my body with selected skin treatments.  

During my adult years, I have made my skin a priority and taken care of my skin health.  I am from “that” generation that worshipped the sun on silver reflective blankets, slathered with a solution of baby oil and iodine!  No…no sunscreen applied….WHAT?!?!  I truly gasp at the thought of the damage done and now I am reversing the process.  

I will never forget the “ah ha” moment!  During my college years, enjoying a weekend at the lake with no sunscreen I contracted a nasty cold sore, which are caused by certain strains of the herpes simplex virus (HSV).  HSV-1 usually causes cold sores.  It was awful, painful, ugly and guess what…no cure!  I recall my dermatologist sharing why protecting my skin was so important and now that I had contracted the virus, I must protect my skin for a variety of reasons in a variety of ways.  She shared I must ALWAYS apply sunscreen as wind and sun can cause recurrence.  Ugh!!!  I was 100% ready to take my skin health seriously and have.  

Dr. Laura Riehm, Skin Deep Laser MD

I am so excited to share some of the body treatments I am LOVING!!!  Last year I discovered Dr. Riehm at Skin Deep Laser MD in Fort Worth, Texas.  During my consultation with Dr. Riehm, I was immediately impressed with her vast knowledge of medicine, and the most current treatments on the market.  I shared my concerns and problem areas and was open to her treatment suggestions.

Pelleve and Picosure Laser for pigmentation and skin tightening

Meeting Dr. Riehm at 55, we both agreed my skin is good condition but room for improvement; I was in!  We decided to begin with my neck as I have two cervical surgical scars that have been almost invisible for years as they were strategically placed in the natural folds in my neck.  During the aging process, now I have crepey skin surrounds the scars and hyperpigmentation.  Dr. Riehm determined the best form of treatment would the Pelleve and Picosure Laser.  I have just completed my 4^th out of 5 treatments and loving the results.  The projected number of treatments, 1 treatment per every 10 years of age.  I am 56, so 5 treatments for me.  I will share before and after photos in a few months, and so happy with the progress so far.

Laser hair removal

About 15 years ago, I had laser hair removal.  Although very successful, I recall the pain was excruciating and four treatments almost killed me.  No joke!!!  Fast forward 15 years, it’s time for a touch up but I am not interested in the pain. NOPE!!!  NO!!!  NO!!!!  Megan at Skin Deep Laser MD assured me this new laser it almost painless.  I didn’t believe her.  My daughter shared she would like to try Skin Deep’s treatment….THE perfect graduation gift by the way!
