My Signature Cocktail: The Puppy

The Puppy!  You have probably seen this beautiful pale pink drink on my posts or stories.  I absolutely LOVE what I have adoringly named, the Puppy.  What is it?  Well, you’ve heard of the Greyhound?  The refreshing two-ingredient cocktail; vodka and grapefruit served over ice.  Super easy drinking, especially if you use ripe, fresh-squeezed grapefruit or even better….Ruby Red!  Add salt to the rim and you have another canine-related classic, the Salty Dog.  My recipe is similar to the Greyhound, adding 2 parts vodka to 1 part grapefruit juice, shake, shake, shake over ice and serve in a chilled martini glass! The secret to a good Puppy is good vodka!! I absolutely LOVE Hell’s Half Acre vodka. It’s smooth and delicious and makes for the perfect cocktail.

Although this isn’t a classic menu item in restaurants across the US, I love when I walk into a number of eateries we frequent and viola….I am presented with THE BEST rendition of my recipe…The Puppy! Ask the bartender to whip you one up next time, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

The Puppy

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Hell’s Half Acre vodka
  • 2 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Combine vodka and grapefruit juice in a cocktail shaker.
  • Add ice, cover and shake until chilled.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with sliced grapefruit or grapefruit twist.
