An Easy and Fresh Skinny Margarita

I’m daydreaming of a day spent lounging by the beach while sipping on a refreshing margarita. While sitting at my desk, I thought I’d put my daydreams to good use by sharing my go-to skinny margarita recipe! Made with just a few simple ingredients, this skinny margarita recipe is perfectly balanced, light, refreshing, and (most importantly) not sweet!
Gone are my days of enjoying a good old fashioned frozen margarita. You know… the slushy frozen concoction smoothly pouring out of the machine at your favorite Tex Mex establishment? When I was in my 20’s there was truly nothing like a frozen margarita. However, as the years went by, the sugar-filled sweet-and-sour mix just wasn’t worth the tummy ache that followed. Hence why I knew I needed to find a lighter (and less sugar-filled) way to enjoy my favorite drink.
I’m admittedly very picky when it comes to margaritas, so it was a long journey to find a recipe that could be made at home while still capturing the same taste and feel of my favorite restaurant margs. After combining elements from different margaritas I’ve loved over the years, I finally developed a skinny margarita recipe that’s perfect for me! Naturally sweetened and made with fresh juices, this skinny margarita hits all the right notes without all the added sugar. It’s the ideal drink for summer hosting or a casual night in. When entertaining, simply multiply the recipe for your guest count and serve it in a large pitcher. Psst… it’s perfect for upcoming Cinco de Mayo festivities!

Perfectly Balanced Skinny Margarita
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz. silver tequila
- ¾ oz. fresh lime juice
- ¾ oz. triple sec orange flavored liqueur
- Agave nectar to taste
- 1 lime wedge or round, for garnish
- Kosher salt or Tajín
Instructions
- Fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and agave. Shake for 30-45 seconds.
- Pour into salt or tajin rimmed glass (if that is your preference), garnish, and serve immediately.
Notes
- I prefer silver tequila, and lately I’ve been loving LALO. I also recommend La Pulga and Don Julio Blanco.
- I like to coat only half the rim of my glass with salt or Tajín so I can control how much I get with each sip. Pour salt or Tajín onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around half of the rim, then dip the glass into the seasoning at a 45 degree angle, rolling it side to side until coated.
- You can even do half salt and half Tajín rim using the instructions above.
- I prefer little to no sweetness in my skinny margarita, but you can add agave nectar as needed to make it sweeter.
