A Light and Refreshing Four Ingredient Skinny Margarita

Everyone has a signature cocktail, and this skinny margarita recipe has quickly become one of mine, in addition to the puppy, of course. After plenty of trial and error over the years, I finally nailed it: the perfect homemade skinny margarita recipe. Made with just four simple ingredients, this recipe is perfectly balanced, light, refreshing, and most importantly, not sweet.
When I was in my 20s, there was truly nothing like a good old fashioned frozen margarita. However, as the years went by, the sugar filled sweet and sour mix just was not worth the tummy ache that followed. That is exactly why I set out to find a lighter way to enjoy my favorite drink with less sugar. As a self admitted margarita snob, it took a while to create a skinny margarita recipe that could be made at home while still capturing the same taste and feel of my favorite restaurant margaritas. After combining elements from different margaritas I have loved over the years, I finally developed a skinny margarita recipe that is perfect for me. Naturally sweetened and made with fresh juices, this skinny margarita recipe hits all the right notes without the added sugar. It is the ideal drink for summer hosting or a casual night in. Psst, it is also perfect for upcoming Cinco de Mayo festivities!

Perfectly Balanced Skinny Margarita
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz. silver tequila
- ¾ oz. fresh lime juice
- ¾ oz. triple sec orange flavored liqueur
- Agave nectar to taste
- 1 lime wedge or round, for garnish
- Kosher salt or Tajín
Instructions
- Fill the cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and agave. Shake for 30-45 seconds.
- Pour into salt or tajin rimmed glass (if that is your preference), garnish, and serve immediately.
Notes
- I prefer silver tequila, and lately I’ve been loving LALO. I also recommend La Pulga and Don Julio Blanco.
- I like to coat only half the rim of my glass with salt or Tajín so I can control how much I get with each sip. Pour salt or Tajín onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around half of the rim, then dip the glass into the seasoning at a 45 degree angle, rolling it side to side until coated.
- You can even do half salt and half Tajín rim using the instructions above.
- I prefer little to no sweetness in my skinny margarita, but you can add agave nectar as needed to make it sweeter.
