In September, my daughter and I had the opportunity to travel to Montana and spend four fabulous days at the green o resort. We have never traveled to Montana, therefore, we truly had no idea what to expect. There are simply no words to describe how incredible our experience was at the green o. The property, location, food, activities, and staff… all absolutely phenomenal. From the moment we landed in Montana, we were in awe with the beauty of the state and the quality of service offered by every staff member. If you’re looking for an adult mountain getaway, we highly recommend this hidden gem.
The Property
The green o is located at the southern edge of the expansive 37,000-acre Paws Up Ranch, in Greenough, Montana. The property is a 35 minute drive from Missoula International Airport, with transportation provided. The property boasts 12 homes, each nestled between the towering trees. We stayed in the Tree Haus, a fabulous accommodation that is elevated 23 feet above ground with floor-to-ceiling windows. This house was simply STUNNING, and allowed us to truly immerse ourselves in the Montana wilderness and live among the trees. One of my favorite parts of each day was waking up to coffee delivery. Early morning (or your selected time) a staff person would deliver coffee and pastries in a Yeti cooler. I would watch the beautiful sunrise from the porch snuggled in a warm comfy blanket, robe, and slippers. We were thrilled at the much cooler temperatures compared to the day we left Texas at a toasty 98 degrees to highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s. Lots, and lots of layers for us.
Culinary
In the center of the resort is the Social Haus, which is a short walk from each of the 12 haus accommodations. A place to gather and eat, the Social Haus is the true heart of the property. Upon walking inside the Social Haus, you are greeted by an array of fabulous aromas and aesthetics that truly brings the beauty of the outdoors inside. One word I would use to describe the food at the Social Haus is PHENOMENAL and a dining experience like no other. The breakfast and lunch menus are absolutely incredible, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy! The nine course tasting menu dinner changes each night, which is artfully designed by the green o’s incredible culinary team. Y’all, there is such incredible talent in that kitchen, we are so impressed! One evening we ordered pizza which we designed our own. Hands down THE best pizza I have ever eaten in my life!
The Activities
Prior to our arrival, The Green O staff assisted in our itinerary for the week. We selected our favorites from the vast list of activities offered. We did step out of our comfort zone and tried a few new adventures and we were quite proud of ourselves, for example… Fly fishing! We were no pros but what an incredible, beautiful, and relaxing experience.
Fly Fishing
It’s a quiet, meditative sport that puts you in close touch with the river and its meandering rhythms. Whether you’re trying fly-fishing for the first time or ready to take your skills to the next level, the green o is the ideal place to learn, with epic stretches of a world-renowned river on property. Our expert fishing guide helped us master the finer points of knot-tying, river-reading and fly-casting. In addition to casting lessons, the green o offers guided fly-fishing trips on the Blackfoot River, which boasts an estimated 1,200 fish per mile.
Shooting Sports
Nothing brings out the competitive spirit like a friendly morning at a shooting range. We hone our skills at the Old West .22 Rifle Range. Kennedy was quite impressive with her shooting skills. On the other hand… I could use a bit more target practice. We had so much fun with this activity!
Hiking
Things could get rocky, but there’s harmony in nature that you won’t find anywhere else. With 37,000 acres of pristine Montana wilderness to explore, you could be wandering past bison on a giant expanse of ranchland or ambling up a path in the woods on your way to a serene pond. Every day there was more to discover and we loved the solo, self-guided hikes on the glorious trails.
Spa Town
At the center of the green o’s spa and fitness program lies a collection of tents, stitched together by an ambling boardwalk. In this calming setting, you’ll discover a menu of services ranging from couple’s massages to purifying mineral mud wraps. You’ll also have the option to develop posture, breathing, balance and flexibility with Buti, Hatha or Vinyasa yoga or build your strength, stability and stamina with GlideBarre classes.
Massage
We each experienced an incredible massage in the heated tents, on warm and cozy massage tables overlooking the beautiful mountains. This was the beginning of our stay and was perfect for the forced relaxation we needed.
Sound Bath
We had the incredible opportunity of experiencing a sound bath. A sound bath is a meditative and healing experience. We closed our eyes and listened to the resonant sounds of singing bowls, which created echoing sounds that filled the room. Incredible.
Fitness
I visited the Huff-and-Puff Fitness Center to keep my workouts on point. It was so nice taking in the view and having access to circuit core balance discs, elliptical machines, free weights, medicine balls, stationary bikes, and treadmills.
Shopping
The Wilderness Outpost is where we met our guides for our activities. We were so delighted to discover THE most fabulous shopping. This incredible store is not your average “resort gift shop”. Wow! We found women, men, and children apparel. Men and women boots with some of our very favorite brands and designers. A quaint library, home decor and all of the logo apparel one could think of.
Our stay at the green o was nothing short of absolutely fabulous!
