Simple Tips To Refresh and Organize Your Closet For The Season

A few states across the country are still experiencing the winter, but here in Texas we have officially embraced spring weather and warmer temperatures. As I finish up my seasonal closet transition, spring closet organization has been very top of mind over the past few weeks. You know, storing away boots and sweaters to make room for spring sandals and lightweight layers that have been tucked away all winter. At the beginning of each season, I use this transition as an opportunity to reassess my wardrobe, declutter, reorganize, and identify any gaps for the season ahead. After completing my seasonal closet swap last week, I discovered a few more spring closet organization hacks that deserve a place in my annual wardrobe transition routine. As we welcome the spring season, it’s the perfect time to refresh my tried and true process for seasonal closet swaps, along with a few tips, tricks, and closet organization finds I truly cannot live without.

MY SEASONAL CLOSET SWAP ROUTINE
STEP 1: PREP YOUR DESIGNATED STORAGE AREA
Start by identifying a designated space to store out of season clothing. I typically use a guest room closet or a dedicated storage closet. When it comes to effectively storing out-of-season items, the right storage solutions make all the difference, and The Container Store offers plenty of great options. I usually opt for clear storage bins, bonus points if they can slide under the bed. If your bins aren’t clear, adding labels makes everything much easier to find later. Now that we’ve stored winter pieces away, you’ve officially created closet space for your spring wardrobe!
STEP 2: START FROM SCRATCH & ASSESS
It may sound daunting, but I always pull all of my spring fashion items out of the closet. A clean slate is crucial for identifying what can stay, what can go, and what gaps need to be filled! This step is especially helpful during end of season sales since it gives me a clearer idea of what’s actually worth adding. I also like to identify a few key winter pieces that can easily transition into spring, like denim jackets, lightweight layers, and jeans, to make the seasonal shift feel more effortless.
STEP 3: ORGANIZING… KEEP YOUR MOST USED PIECES WITHIN REACH
This might sound obvious, but when it comes to spring closet organization, I always recommend keeping your most frequently worn pieces front and center. For me, that includes activewear, denim, and everyday blouses. You can make the most of your space by storing less frequently worn items out of the way, which frees up prime real estate for the pieces you reach for most. Keeping everything within easy reach makes it easier to get dressed and helps streamline your daily routine.
STEP 4: SORTING YOUR HANGING PIECES BY LIFESTYLE
Over time, I’ve found that sorting my hanging pieces by lifestyle or category works best. Grouping like items together allows me to quickly and easily find what I need. Think individual sections for dresses, blouses, and more. Within each section, I organize by color for an even more streamlined look. For added clarity, I label each section with closet rod organizers to keep everything feeling intentional and easy to maintain. Tiffy tip! There’s something about coordinating hangers that instantly makes a closet feel more put together, and I like to keep clips on hand to make the most of my available hanging space.
STEP 5: UTILIZE ORGANIZATION TOOLS
Regardless of the size of your closet, organization tools are a great way to make the most of your available space. The Container Store offers a wide selection of solutions to help create additional storage and keep everything organized. I’ve linked a few of my favorites below, simply click the items to shop!
